Is one of the cleanest freshwater lakes in the whole Italian Peninsula and sits in<\/span> Verbano Cusio Ossola<\/b> (Piedmont). This basin is very close to the Gulf of Borromeo and takes its name from Mergozzo, the village welcoming it. What are the main<\/span> characteristics <\/b>of Lake Mergozzo, and what are the<\/span> activities <\/b>offered for tourists?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

History and geographical characteristics<\/b><\/h3>\n

Once, <\/span>Lake Mergozzo<\/b> constituted the most Western part of <\/span>Lake Major<\/b>, namely the Sinus Mergotianus.\u00a0 The continuous floods of river Toce contributed to the emersion of a stretch of land, which divided Lake Major into two basins. Lake Mergozzo was born. The lake is still connected to Lake Major thanks to a channel long 2.7 km.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the<\/span> main characteristics<\/b> of <\/span>Lake<\/b>\u00a0is that its <\/span>waters<\/b> are one of the<\/span> clearest in Italy<\/b> thanks to the lack of industrial manufacturers on its shores; the ban on the use of motorboats; and a drainage system not discharging in the basin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With regards to the <\/span>structural characteristics of Lake<\/b>, the basin is 2.5 km long, and a bit more than 1 km wide.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lake waters reach a depth of 74 meters,\u00a0 for a total volume of water which is almost 90 million\u00a0 meters cubic meter. Lake Mergozzo merges with various <\/span>other watercourses<\/b>, among which:<\/span><\/p>\n
